About

In 2025–26, I received a grant of INR 15,00,000 under the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Institutional Internship initiative from the Ministry of Education, Government of India for the project titled “Integrating Ancient Phonetics and Ayurveda with AI for Voice and Speech Disorder Detection.” This interdisciplinary initiative aims to bridge traditional Indian knowledge with modern technological innovations to address critical health challenges. Serving as the Principal Investigator, I am responsible for conceptualizing and leading a research and internship framework that engages students and researchers in exploring ancient phonetic principles and Ayurvedic insights into vocal health, and integrating them with cutting-edge artificial intelligence models for accurate detection and analysis of voice and speech disorders.

The project involves collecting and analyzing speech data, mapping Ayurvedic diagnostic parameters to AI-based feature extraction, and developing a robust, accessible tool for early diagnosis and rehabilitation support. Funding will be directed towards data acquisition, AI model development, validation through clinical and field studies, and dissemination of results via workshops and publications. This project aligns with the IKS vision of preserving and modernizing India’s knowledge heritage while fostering innovation that can improve healthcare accessibility. The outcomes are expected to benefit speech therapy, medical diagnostics, and assistive technology domains at both national and global levels.
